About: Tony lilley - Paintings and Photography
Based in the picturesque village of Histon at the edge of The City of Cambridge, England, UK.

About my work:
Most of my paintings involve some sort of fantasy element with the images coming from my imagination, although some may seem to be a real place.
Described by an artist friend as surreal, slightly dreamlike paintings capturing an old fashioned feeling of peace and well-being.
Some images may be connected with reality,
a story or legend that I've come across, like that of Black Shuck.
Usually my pictures are not of any real place or of real events but come from my imagination and involve painting a picture that I hope has a story, atmosphere and mood, a feeling of being there, a scene that feels like you can walk into it, or are in it !
I am inspired by many films, book illustrations and paintings especially Pre-Raphaelite style and many things I see in the real world.
In the past I used to paint with oils but was frustrated by the time they take to dry, but they do have the advantage of having more time to manipulate the paint on the canvas. I now enjoy the amazing versitility of acrylics and paint in acrylics most of the time. Sometimes I like to paint in new digital media but using a traditional drawing as it's base. Other images I make sometimes use mixed media with photo-montage techniques.
Photography also plays a large part in my passion for making images, taking photographs for use as Fine Art and also Stock Images used in Photo-Libraries.
